Free Project – Scrapbuster Mitered Coasters

03.09.2018   /   byFree Designs Admin

I find it hard to toss leftover yarn when I finish a project, but my stash of leftovers is piling up. I came up with this pattern to use up those scraps and make something useful at the same time. Any type of yarn will work, any thickness too. I found that natural fibers work best as coasters since they actually absorb liquid, but any man-made fiber would work too. Category: Knitting Type: For the Home Skill Level: Easy, beginner Basic Skills Necessary: Knit stitch Gauge: n/a Sizing/Measurements: goal is approx. 4.5” square

  • Needle size that matches yarn thickness (US 9 and two strands of medium weight yarn was used for the coasters in the picture)
  • Scrap yarn! If using multiple yarns in single thickness (i.e. striping) be sure to carry ends up sides; to create thicker yarn you can double-up and knit with two yarns at the same time
  • Stitch markers
